How it works

Assuming similar pan depths, batter needs scale with surface area. A round pan's area is π × (diameter ÷ 2)²; a rectangle's is length × width. The factor is your pan's area ÷ the recipe pan's area. Multiply every ingredient by it — the recipe scaler can do that part for you.

FAQ

Can I swap an 8-inch square for a 9-inch round?

Yes — 64 vs ~63.6 square inches. That's the classic 1:1 swap; no changes needed.

Do I need to change the bake time?

Only if the batter depth changes. Deeper = longer at the same temperature; shallower = start checking about 20% earlier. Don't change the oven temperature.

What about bundt and springform pans?

Springforms behave like rounds of the same diameter. Bundts are volume-based — a standard bundt holds 10–12 cups of batter, roughly two 9-inch round layers' worth.
