Based on the US stick = 113.4 g (¼ lb). A metric block is usually 250 g ≈ 1.1 cups ≈ 17.6 tbsp — close to, but not exactly, one cup.

Every unit is anchored to grams: 1 stick = 113.4 g, 1 tablespoon = 14.2 g, 1 cup = 226.8 g and 1 ounce = 28.35 g. Your amount is converted to grams and then out to every other unit.

How many tablespoons in a stick of butter?
8 tablespoons. The stick wrapper is marked in tablespoons, so you can slice off exactly what you need.
Is a metric block the same as a cup?
Almost. A 250 g block is about 1.1 US cups. For baking, 227 g (one cup) is close enough unless the recipe is fussy about ratios.
Does softened vs melted change the weight?
No — weight is the same whatever the temperature. Volume measures (cups, tablespoons) can shift a little once butter is melted, which is another reason weighing is more reliable.
